Over the course of my life and writing journey Jesus has echoed this theme: Hard-won, Hope-filled.
My family and I are no strangers to grief and loss. From the unexpected deaths of loved ones, to the heartbreak of miscarriage and divorce, to the grit and grace of restoration, I have wrestled with God and trudged through desert seasons, but through it all Jesus has been faithful.
If you find yourself drawn to stories (or poems!) of perseverance even when it seems all hope is lost, you’re in the right place. Through the power of story (by the grace of God) I write to encourage the weary and the skeptical, the cynical and heartbroken, no matter the circumstances, there is always Hope.
As I pursue getting an agent and the publication of my first novel, I have had a series of poems and short stories published in various genres. While my heart has been pulled in a thousand directions, my hope is to see my books line the Historical Fiction shelves alongside the likes of Ariel Lawhon, Heather Kaufman, Jamie Ogle, Beatrice Colin, and Francine Rivers to name a few.
When I’m not writing, most of my days are spent with my three wild and wonderful kids. As an Army family, we follow my husband around the world who serves as an Active Duty Chaplain. Having grown up an Army Chaplain’s kid myself, my blood runs green!
A few fun facts about me: Indian food is my favorite, I grew up in a house where quoting movies was basically a second language, I lived in Germany for six years, I’m the oldest of four kids, I think grapefruit is disgusting, I was on the swim team in high school, and I love the Jayhawks.
There’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it’s worth writing for (personal paraphrase)
With Hope,
Ali
